Year 10 is a very busy and rewarding year for our students, with work experience and scuba diving on the horizon. Work experience is an important component of our Year 10 program and aims to provide students with an opportunity to gain a realistic understanding of the world of work, as well as building confidence, independence and self-awareness. Year 10 students will complete two weeks of work experience, in two different workplaces and attend the Gold Coast Careers Day, which provides them with face-to-face access to employers across a number of industry areas. It is expected that each student will independently find a work experience host. The School provides them with assistance to decide on their areas of interest and make contact with workplaces, as well as visiting them while "on the job". Some of our students have set their sights on a city experience in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. We have students who will experience working in a hospital, surf factory, bookshop, vet, animal rescue, cafes, restaurants, and a few may find their way into our Preschool, Primary School and Farm. Scuba diving is completed with qualified instructors in Byron Bay, where students have the opportunity to dive at Julian Rocks and explore the underwater wonder that lies deep beneath our local oceans, in preparation for our Vanuatu Camp later in the year.
