Enrolment Procedure
We welcome your interest in enrolling your child at Shearwater, the Mullumbimby Steiner School. Shearwater is a double-stream K-12 school with aPreschool and Playgroups. Our average class size is 28 students.
While many of our Primary School classes are full with waiting lists, we currently have availability at some year levels in our High School.
We do recommend families intending to enrol apply early and ensure they keep their contact details and applications up to date. As places in full classes are only made available by students leaving, it is difficult to say how long a child may wait for a place.
While date of application is taken into account, there are other factors that influence the decision to progress a child’s enrolment, including the family’s support of the School’s ethos, as well as their ability to pay fees. Students from other Steiner schools and siblings of enrolled students are given priority on waiting lists.

The enrolments process includes the following steps:
1) Attendance at a school tour is required where possible. Tours of the Primary School and High School are held twice per term and are led by Faculty Coordinators. Tours commence at 9.30am sharp and take about one hour. Tour bookings can be made by calling the Office on (02) 6684 3223 or by emailing information@shearwater.nsw.edu.au. Please include your child’s full name, date of birth and current school, as well as the names of all adults attending and a mobile phone number.
2) Shearwater K-12 Enrolment Application form to be lodged, including the student’s two most recent school reports and any additional documentation, as indicated on the application form. If you are applying for a position commencing more than 12 months from your application date, please complete an Intention to Enrol form, in the first instance. An Application Fee is payable on lodgement of application (please see Fee Schedule for details). Applications will not be processed or added to the waitlist until this Fee has been received.
3) The Enrolments Coordinator will acknowledge receipt of your application and provide information on availability.
4) When a place is available, an enrolment interview will be scheduled with the Head of School. Not all students who are interviewed will be offered a place.
5) The final step of the enrolment process will be an interview with the Class Teachers/Guardians. A meeting with the Business Manager will also be held at this time.
5) The Enrolments Coordinator will either make an offer of a place or you will be informed that no place can be offered at this time and be given the option of remaining on the waiting list. An Enrolment Fee will be payable on acceptance of an offered place (please see Fee Schedule for details).
Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions about the School or our admissions process.
