Working at Shearwater

Shearwater, the Mullumbimby Steiner School is nestled among the green hills of the Byron Shire hinterland, 3.5 km from Mullumbimby, and a short drive from some of the most beautiful coastline of NSW. Established in 1993, Shearwater has grown to a double streamed K-12 school with an enrolment of over 600, an Early Learning Centre and a Trade Skills Centre. Our beautiful 21 hectare site is bordered by a creek and rainforest, farmland, with gardens and a working farm managed according to biodynamic practices. Shearwater offers staff education and a mentoring program, ongoing professional learning opportunities, workshops, events and courses.

Receptionist and Backup Front Office Support

Shearwater is currently seeking an experienced Receptionist to support the Main Office in a casual capacity. Ideally, this individual will also provide back up support for first aid and attendance.

The successful candidate will work within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, bringing with them initiative, excellent communication skills, and similar experience in reception and administrative roles and, preferably, within a School environment.

Little Shearwater, Early Childhood Centre
Preschool Assistants: Casual and one Temporary (2 days per week) Position Available
Commence September 2022

Shearwater School is currently seeking caring, creative, and nurturing Preschool Assistants to provide support in our preschool classes. We are looking for flexible and on-call casuals, in addition to a temporary assistant to work two days per week from September through to the December break to cover for a staff member on leave.

Our double-streamed preschool provides a quality play-based education program for children aged three to five, guided by the indications of Rudolf Steiner and built upon a platform in which the curriculum and daily practices are linked to the National Quality Standards and Early Years Learning Framework. Each class offers hands-on activities, play, artistic activities, singing and music in a warm, loving and home-like environment. 

The ideal candidates will hold an appropriate Early Childhood qualification and will have an awareness of the theories, practices, and principles of Steiner early childhood education with demonstrated experience within an early childhood setting.

Shearwater is currently seeking casual Secondary School Teachers with specialities in mathematics, science, PDHPE, and food/textiles to provide casual relief.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience delivering engaging and effective learning and assessment programs within their respective key learning area that meet NSW NESA requirements, as well as having the relevant teaching qualifications and experience for accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirements. A sound understanding of the principles, practices, and theory of Steiner education are also desirable.
